Hog Cooker
in pursuit of a pig pickin'
Hog cookers are used to roast whole hogs over a period of roughly 24 hours. They are large, easy-to-construct outdoor ovens.
There have been two iterations of its design so far: the cinderblock cooker and the plywood cooker.
The Cinderblock Cooker
This cooker has an all cinderblock construction with the exception of the rebar and the expanded steel grate that are used to suspend the pig. Underneath the grate is the disposable sand used to absorb the pig's drippings and the cooker's heat source, charcoal.
the plywood cooker
This cooker is primarily made of 2x4 and plywood. Like the cinderblock cooker, it has rebar and an expanded steel grate to suspend the pig. Underneath the grate there is a drip pan which redirects the drippings to a collection pan and shields the cooker's heating element, a Rubens' tube.
